What’s Cooking?

Posted by 365DaysVeg on October 27, 2007

Today I am going to share a recipe that is very popular in the Punjab region of India - Sarson Ki Saag! Literally this means a dish made of Mustard Greens. Hmmmm… YUM!
So, let’s get cooking…

Sarson Ki Saag

Ingredients:

1 Bunch of Mustard Greens
3 - 4 Garlic Cloves
1 tsp Ginger
1 Medium size onion chopped
2 tbsp Olive Oil or Canola or Vegetable Oil
1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
Red chilly powder to taste
1 & 1/2 tbsp Coriander powder
Salt to taste

Wash the mustard greens thoroughly in cold water. Chop it coarsely. In a pressure cooker, add about 1/2 cup water and the mustard greens. Let it cook until tender. Alternately, you can also cook the mustard greens in the microwave or on the stove top with some water.
In the mean time add the oil to a pan and heat. Then add the whole mustard seeds and let it splutter. Then add the ginger, garlic, onions and saute. Now, remove the mustard greens from the cooker and add it to the pan. Mix well. Using a hand blender, puree the mixture. Add the spices mentioned in the ingredients and salt to taste. Your dish is ready! Serve it with some hot Chappatis (Roti) or Naan bread for a complete meal.
