Besan ki Pulao

Posted by 365DaysVeg on November 7, 2007

Wonder what to do with those left over food especially rice? Not a problem. I am here to share an easy and delicious recipe that can satisfy your palate. This recipe comes from my mother in law who is an awesome cook and I loved it. This dish tastes best when you make it with Basmati rice.
The main ingredient that gives its taste is Besan and hence the name of the recipe. Besan is a flour made from ground chickpeas. It is used in many countries and is a staple ingredient in Indian cuisine. In the form of a paste with water or yogurt, it is used as a popular facial exfoliant in India.

Besan ki Pulao

Left over rice (about 2 cups)
1 tbsp Besan or Gram flour
1/2 tsp minced garlic
1 small onion chopped (optional)
1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
1/2 tsp of plain red chilly powder (or your intake of heat level)
1 tbsp oil
A pinch of sugar
Salt to taste
Cilantro for garnish

Heat some oil in a pan. Add the onions, garlic, saute for a few minutes. Add the besan and saute for a couple of minutes. Now add the chilly powder, turmeric powder, mix. Add the rice, salt, sugar and mix everything together well. Garnish with cilantro.
Dinner is ready in less then 10 minutes. Serve with some raita is needed.

Tip: You can squeeze some lemon juice for added flavor.
